Now there is a new opportunity to remove snow and ice from trucks and increase road safety in North Jutland!
In December, Hirtshals Transport Center, in collaboration with the FDE Foundation, installed an 18 m long and 4 m high snow bridge, which has just been used by the first trucks.
The snow bridge, which is set up in the parking lot at the transport center, can be used free of charge by everyone around the clock. The bridge is well lit, and there are brooms and scrapers at the ready, so it’s easy to get started.
Center Director Tonni Sørensen explains why they have invested in the snow bridge:
“Hirtshals Transport Center wants to take part in improving the safety of truck transport. It is important both to increase road safety for everyone in the area and to ensure good and safe working conditions for the drivers. The industry has seen many accidents when drivers have worked from ladders to remove snow and ice, which they are obliged to do according to traffic laws. Now they can stand safely on the snow bridge at a good working height while working.”
At HTC, there are also washing facilities so that you can leave the site with clean mirrors and windows. Furthermore, Agathon on spot – which is next door to HTC – has a place to adjust all the truck’s mirrors. This service is also completely free of charge.
HTC – Hirtshals Transport Center is visited by an average of 350 trucks a day, and it is expected that this number will increase further with the new opportunities to optimize safety.
Blue Water Shipping was one of the first to use the new snow bridge – and thus drove safely in the North Jutland traffic.

The coveted local business award 2013 goes to one of the “residents” of Hirtshals Transport Center.
Bent Agathon and his company Agathon On Spot have received the award.
With it comes obligations. The brass plate documenting that Hirtshals was City of the Year in 1989 must be kept shiny.
In the picture, Bent Agathon receives instruction from former mayor Knud Størup and help from his 6-year-old son, Noah.
Six years to build a successful business
– This award is an appreciation from the city to a business leader who is doing something special and positive for the local community. This year is the 25th time a company has received the Business of the Year Award, and it is a company that has created great success for itself, a company whose leader has seen the opportunities that lie in the highway bringing traffic all the way to Hirtshals. Agathon On Spot serves the transportation sector, and this has led to the company growing from 6 to 20 employees in six years, said former mayor Knud Størup when he presented the 2013 Business Award to Bent Agathon, owner of Agathon On Spot.
Bent Agathon – extremely modest – expressed his thanks for the prestigious award and the appreciation it represents. He was very grateful that the highway and HTC have created the opportunity to develop the business he started six years ago under more modest conditions with a service truck operating from different locations before moving into the large hall built by HTC two years ago. A few weeks ago, Agaton On Spot went one step further with the versatile trailer workshop.
Another extension was inaugurated with a large hall that houses additional service facilities for the benefit of transport sector operators.
Bent Agathon was both pleased and surprised that the business award went to his company, and he reported that it also brought great joy to his employees
Agathon On Spot is now looking forward to following the development that the highway and the expansion of the facilities at the Port of Hirtshals and HTC will enable.
The ceremony to present the business award took place at Jepsens Plads in the center of Hirtshals, and at the same time Bent Agathon received a bag containing the polishing equipment to be used when the brass tile, which Hirtshals received from Jyllands Posten in 1989 when it was named City of the Year, must be kept shiny.
Knud Størup, who has presented the award all 25 times, was able to announce that this was the last time for him, as his long career in local politics is coming to an end.
But before he retires, he made sure that Bent Agathon got a thorough instruction in tile polishing.
AGATHON ON SPOT INCREASES ACTIVITIES AT HTC
Lene Espersen has inaugurated a new 1000 m2 workshop hall – It will accommodate new activities serving the transportation sector.
Another expansion is helping to increase activity around Hirtshals Transport Center.
Member of Parliament, former Minister of Justice and Foreign Affairs Lene Espersen has visited HTC in her hometown to mark the expansion of Agathon On Spot, which has increased its square meters by 1000. The large hall, which is almost double the size of the previous workshop area, will house a new bodywork workshop.
The expansion with yet another new workshop comes just 17 months after Agathon On Spot opened its first trailer workshop at HTC in 2011.
– “It’s impressive to see how Hirtshals keeps up with developments. They see and use the opportunities to position themselves in Scandinavia, said Lene Espersen in her speech at the inauguration.
– Hirtshals has a unique geography, and the players in the area know how to exploit it, whether it’s fishing or transportation.
Hirtshals Transport Center is becoming a new growth center, where enterprising people and companies see the opportunities that lie in being located in the middle of a traffic hub.
With the expansion of the body shop, Agathon On Spot is now able to carry out much larger repairs of trailers and refrigerated boxes. At the same time, investments have been made in a new straightening bench and overhead crane, making it possible to offer straightening of chassis, trailers, containers, etc.
The new body shop is next door to the 1150 m2 hall that houses the trailer workshop. The two buildings are located on an 8000 m2 tiled area.
Agathon On Spot’s activities cover a large need for the transport sector, not least because the two modern workshop buildings also serve as service partners with companies such as Knud Hansen/Thermoking Kølemaskiner, Smith Cargo Bull and PNO Trailer
With the high level of activity and expansions in the area, the areas that HTC started using in 2008 are nearing completion. Therefore, construction work has also begun on a new 140,000 m2 area to the east of HTC. It is expected that the first companies will start working here as early as June this year.
The many guests and customers in attendance could hear
Transport Minister Hans Chr. Schmidt express great satisfaction with his visit to Hirtshals and the inauguration of Agathon.
The Minister praised the owner Bent Agathon Leifsgaard for taking the initiative together with the center to get the company up and running.
In his speech, the director of HTC expressed great pleasure at the high level of activity already seen at Agathon, both that there was activity from 7am to 9pm when the company is open, but also that so many of the local hauliers
and companies use Agathon is gratifying. In his speech, Anker L. Andersen, Chairman of the Board of the Port of Hirtshals, made no secret of the fact that the port was pleased to see the continued expansion of the transport center, and that Bent Agathon’s trailer workshop is of great importance for the further development in and around the Transport Center.
Director Knud Hansen from KH One Stop a/s praised Bent Agathon for his initiative to establish a brand new modern trailer workshop, and Knud Hansen looked forward to the future collaboration with Bent Agathon, not only because it was an exciting new initiative, but also because Knud Hansen had Bent Agathon’s father employed at his workshop for 25 years, so the relationship between these two companies goes way back.
Many guests visited the Agathon trailer workshop at the inauguration.
